LipoSelection by Vaser is a surgical technique to remove unwanted deposits of fat from specific areas of the body including the face and neck, upper arms, upper and lower back, abdomen, buttocks, hips, inner and outer thighs, knees, calves and ankles. This is not a substitute for weight reduction but a method for removing specific localised deposits of fatty tissue. The technology may be performed as a primary procedure for body contouring or may be combined with other techniques.
The best candidates for LipoSelection by Vaser are individuals of relatively normal weight who have an excess of fat in a particular body area. Having firm elastic skin will result in a better final contour after the procedure. Skin that has diminished tone due to stretch marks, weight loss, natural ageing or environmental factors will not reshape itself nearly as well to the new contours and may require additional surgical techniques to remove and tighten excess skin. Body contour irregularities due to structures other than fat cannot be improved by this technique.
Lipoplasty itself cannot improve areas of dimpled skin known as cellulite.

What are the benefits of this treatment?
VASERlipo® is precise ultrasound-assisted technology combining mechanical and acoustic fragmentation/emulsification of fat designed to maximize procedure speed and efficiency while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissue compared to traditional liposuction.
- Minimally invasive body contouring
- Fast healing with smoother results compared to traditional liposuction
- Precise sculpting
- Treat small or large areas in a single session
- Versatile enough to treat the full body or delicate areas
- Less pain, swelling, and bruising than traditional liposuction
Key Features & Benefits
- Eye-catching results in a single procedure
- Easily remove large amounts of stored fat
- Smooth skin even in delicate areas like the arms and neck
- Refine and accentuate the appearance of muscles
A more precise, less traumatic procedure than traditional liposuction, with improved outcomes
- Treats the entire torso and the female body contour
- Targets patients who may not have previously considered body contouring
- Achieves body sculpting results that were previously attainable only through diet and exercise
What does the treatment involve?
The LipoSelection procedure is performed utilising advanced proprietary patented technology. A solid metal probe is inserted through a small skin incision into the fatty deposit. Ultrasonic energy emitted from the sides and the end of the probe as it is passed back and forth, breaks down the fatty deposits.
A hollow metal cannula is then inserted and is directed through the area of emulsified fat. The cannula is attached to a vacuum source which provides gentle aspiration to remove the fat. The LipoSelection by Vaser is unique in that it first targets and disrupts fat cells and then draws them off (as emulsified fat) leaving the collagen matrix intact. Surgical trauma, complications and the potential for post-operative pain and bruising are minimized while skin retraction is optimal.
There are a variety of different techniques used for lipoplasty and care following surgery. LipoSelection by Vaser may be performed under local anaesthesia and requires the infiltration of fluid containing dilute local anaesthetic and adrenalin into areas of fatty deposits. This technique can reduce the discomfort at the time of the surgery as well as reduce the potential for bruising.
How long does it take to recover?
Vaser Liposuction is a fast healing with smoother results when compared to traditional liposuction
Recovery rates from Vaser Liposuction procedures will vary . However, on average, it only takes four to seven days to mostly recover. Patients will typically be able to return to a sedentary job after one week and to a manual role after two weeks.
It is best to avoid heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks following the procedure to allow your body to heal fully. You will need to wear a special compression garment to help reshape your body for about 6-8 weeks after your Vaser Liposuction. Your surgeon will be able to provide more information on the best requirements for a smooth and full recovery..
Support garments and dressings are worn after the surgery to control potential swelling and promote healing. The garments also provide comfort and support and help the skin better fit the new body contour.
Risks & complications
Realistic expectations are most important, and all patients must understand the limitations surrounding this procedure and the subjectivity of results.
Every surgical procedure involves a certain amount of risk. An individual’s choice to undergo a surgical procedure is based on the comparison of the risks to potential benefit.
The list below outlines the principle risks, complications and limitations and is inclusive but not limited to;
1. Asymmetry
In most patients asymmetry exists pre-operatively however asymmetry may also develop as a result of VASER Liposuction. Our aim is to improve body symmetry as much as possible.
2. Residual Fat
It is important to understand that the aim is not to take away all the fat from a particular area, which would be unnatural. The objective is to create a harmony between the area treated and the rest of the body. It is possible that after successful VASER treatment, the patient and the doctor may decide that fat deposits in areas other than those originally operated upon will also benefit from surgery. This will incur further cost.
3. Patient Selection
Individuals with poor skin tone, severe medical problems, obesity or unrealistic expectations may not be good candidates for VASER liposuction.
4. Allergic Reactions
It is important that you tell the medical staff of any allergies to any medication whatsoever that you may have, even if this medication is a homeopathic preparation or a medication you can buy in a supermarket.
5. Skin Discoloration or Irregular Pigmentation
1 in 1000 patients can experience skin discoloration or irregular pigmentation known as erythema ab lipo aspiration or cutis marmorata. Hyper or Hypo pigmentation / cutis marmorata can be permanent. Do not smoke for at least one month following your procedure as this can contribute towards skin discoloration and irregular pigmentation.
6. Uneven Contours and Skin Contour Irregularities
As VASER Liposuction selectively targets fat and leaves other essential tissues intact, skin contour irregularities are unlikely but possible. Visible and palpable wrinkling of skin can occur, particularly when large quantities of fat are removed and/or the skin is lacking good elasticity. Post-operative skin contouring irregularities could necessitate additional treatments including surgery.
7. Skin Elasticity
Patients with poor skin tone may develop skin slackness. In most cases this settles over a twelve-month period. If not, the patients may subsequently wish to consider further excision of the excess skin. It is therefore very important that patients are realistic about what may be achieved. Visible and palpable wrinkling of the skin can occur, particularly when large quantities of fat are removed and/or the skin is lacking good elasticity,
8. Unfavourable Scarring
Although incision sites are small (approx. 4-5mm) and should fade, all surgical scars are permanent. Scar location will depend on the incision site. The rate and extent to which scars heal and fade are variable and differ from one individual to another. There is a small risk in some people that these scars may stay for a while. Very rarely a scar does not heal in the normal way; this is known as hypertrophic scarring. Tethering is a form of scarring that can occur under the skin.
