Mr Canny is a consultant colorectal and general surgeon specialising in minimally invasive surgery of the colon and rectum for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. 

He also treats a range of other benign conditions of the abdomen and abdominal wall including hernia surgery. He has been trained extensively through various institutions across the UK completing his specialist training in Northern Ireland. 

He completed an advanced pelvic malignancy fellowship as the Birmingham advanced and recurrent rectal cancer fellow from 2023-2024.  He is a JAG accredited colonoscopist.  He has been published and presented internationally on multiple occasions regarding colorectal disease.
