Mr Danny Acton’s Profile

Mr (Joseph) Danny (JD) Acton has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Altnagelvin Hospital for many years since 2004 and has regular clinics and theatre lists at Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West.

He graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1991 and is a fellow of the Edinburgh Royal College of Surgeons.

After completing speciality training at St George’s hospital London in 2002 he spent a year on an international fellowship in Sydney, Australia followed by an arthroplasty fellowship at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast focusing on lower limb arthroplasty and soft tissue surgery of the knee.

He has extensive experience in complex primary arthroplasty of the hip and knee and soft tissue surgery of the knee.  Specific interests include kinematic total and partial knee replacement, ligament reconstruction of the knee and management of patellar instability.

He has been the Lead Clinician in the Altnagelvin Orthopaedic Department since February 2020.  He represents his colleagues on the KPHNW Medical Advisory Committee.  He has been an honorary lecturer with Queens University Belfast, lead for audit in the orthopaedic department and  local representative for the UK National Joint Registry.  He continues to do research and is principal investigator for a national study into the G7 acetabular component for total hip replacement and a RCT on the management of patella instability.  He has been invited faculty on International conferences in Mayo, Dublin and Verona, Italy.
