Hip replacement surgery provides significant improvements that can transform your daily life and long term wellbeing.
Hip Replacement Surgery can help you regain mobility and carry out daily activities with less pain. The new joint can reduce stiffness, improve movement, and allow you to walk more comfortably.
Many patients find they can return to hobbies, exercise, and social activities that were difficult before surgery. Pain relief also often leads to better sleep and overall wellbeing.
The main benefit is that the procedure can make everyday life easier and allow you to move with greater freedom.
At Kingsbridge, you’ll be in the expert hands of the UK and Ireland’s top orthopaedic consultants.
There are different types of Hip Replacement Surgery depending on your condition and medical needs.
Your surgeon will explain which type of surgery is most suitable for you based on your symptoms and overall health.
Understanding the available options helps you make an informed decision about your treatment. The main options are:
Total Hip Replacement
Partial Hip Replacement

Knowing what happens at each stage of hip replacement surgery can help you feel prepared and more at ease. Here’s what you can expect:
Before Surgery
You will have a medical assessment to check your general health and suitability for surgery. Your consultant will explain the procedure, risks, and recovery process. You may also be given advice on preparing your home for when you return.
During Surgery
The operation is carried out under anaesthetic. The damaged parts of the hip joint are removed and replaced with artificial components. The surgery usually takes a few hours.
After Surgery
You will spend time in hospital to recover and begin physiotherapy. Most patients start walking with support within a day or two. A physiotherapist will guide you through exercises to build strength and movement. Recovery continues at home, with follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.
