Travel & Vaccination Clinic

24th, May 2016

Vaccinations are especially important if you are going further abroad to tropical regions where there is a risk of exposure to life-threatening tropical diseases, such as yellow fever and malaria.

Travel & Vaccination Clinic

Whether travelling for work or pleasure, Kingsbridge Private Hospital is delighted to offer a fast track Travel Clinic, individually tailored to suit your needs.

Vaccinations are especially important if you are going further abroad to tropical regions where there is a risk of exposure to life-threatening tropical diseases, such as yellow fever and malaria.

Yellow fever

  • Yellow fever is an acute virus transmitted by infected mosquitoes which is endemic in tropical areas of Africa and Central and South America.  The "yellow" in the name refers to the jaundice that affects some patients
  • Symptoms of yellow fever include fever, headache, jaundice, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and fatigue
  • A small proportion of patients who contract the virus develop severe symptoms and approximately half of those die within 7 to 10 days

Malaria

  • Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes
  • In 2015, 95 countries and territories had ongoing malaria transmission
  • About 3.2 billion people – almost half of the world’s population – are at risk of malaria

Unfortunately travellers who fail to take adequate precautions may see their insurance claims for medical treatment being refused by their insurance company.

As most countries do not have free healthcare, the hospital bills for even simple issues can be large and if more complex operations are required can quickly spiral into thousands of pounds.

Travellers are therefore urged to take the required precautions, most importantly to protect their health, but also to stay within the terms of their insurance policies.

The fast-track Travel Clinic at Kingsbridge Private Hospital offers you an individually-tailored course of travel vaccinations including yellow fever, anti-malarial medication and travel advice appropriate to your destination(s), length of stay and personal medical circumstances.

Please note:

  • Some vaccinations require a course over several weeks
  • All vaccinations take time to offer you full protection
  • We advise that you book at least 1 month before travel where possible
  • We can also accommodate last minute travellers and realistic advice will be given

Don’t let an avoidable problem ruin your trip of a lifetime… book your travel assessment today!
