Mr. Mullan graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2003 and then completed his junior doctor and Registrar training in Northern Ireland.
When his training was complete he undertook a period of fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. This was prestigious fellowship position - he was trained in complex Laparoscopic/Keyhole surgery and trained extensively in Bariatric surgery, advanced and complex hernia surgery, benign upper GI surgeries (such as fundoplication and para-oesophageal hernia repair) and laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery.
Following his return from Canada, he took up a position as Consultant General GI Surgeon in South West Acute Hospital where he worked for 7 years performing both laparoscopic elective emergency surgeries for both benign and malignant conditions. With the restructuring of surgical services in Northern Ireland, he moved to Craigavon Hospital in February 2023 to continue performing emergency surgery.
Mr. Mullan still operates on a six-weekly basis in both Enniskillen and Omagh Hospitals were he now performs day case and short stay surgeries. He undertakes endoscopy services - OGD and Colonoscopy in a number of endoscopy units regionally – Omagh/Dungannon/Enniskillen. He also contribute the training of the next generation of surgeons in Northern Ireland as a registered GMC Trainer.
Mr. Mullan currently worka in the Southern Trust, and he performs complex and emergency surgery in Craigavon Hospital. He operates as a regional NI Surgeon in Omagh and Enniskillen Hospitals.
Michael is married with 3 children living in Omagh. He is an active member of the GAA and a 'struggling' banjo player.
