Kingsbridge Private Hospital; part of The Kingsbridge Healthcare Group, has recently partnered with Queen’s University Belfast and Queen’s Sport to provide Physiotherapy and Healthcare services to Queen’s Sport Student Athletes, Queen’s Sport members and members of the wider public. The clinic will be based at the Physical Education Centre (PEC) located at Botanic Park, Stranmillis Embankment, Belfast.  The post-holder will benefit from being able to rehabilitate clients within Queen’s PEC’s state of the art gym facility including swimming pool, diving pool, 4G and grass pitches for pitch-based rehabilitation and functional gym area for individual client rehabilitation. The Kingsbridge Healthcare Group has an already established reputation for offering the very best in healthcare and are delighted to be working alongside Queen’s Sport to provide a world class service to all users. We are currently recruiting experienced sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapists to expand this service. 
 
The service at Queen’s Sport will be supported by Kingsbridge Private Hospital with direct access to an extensive range of specialties working alongside the best doctors and surgeons in Northern Ireland. Extended group services will cover a wide range of specialist areas including Sports Medicine, Orthopaedics, Radiology, General Surgery, Spinal Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Endoscopy and Paediatric Services.

Job Summary

The post-holder will be required to assist in the delivery of Physiotherapy Services at Queen’s PEC by taking personal responsibility for planning and prioritising own patient workload.  The post requires the individual to work as part of a team including clinic manager, client booking/administration staff, sports medicine practitioners, athletic performance coaches and sports therapists. Working times will vary and evening hours will be essential. There is the option of gaining experience providing sports physiotherapy services to Queens sport elite and academy athletes as well as performance teams.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake and record a thorough, sensitive and detailed assessment of a patient, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care.
  • To provide appropriate advice based on the patient’s medical, social and cultural circumstances.
  • To formulate and deliver individual physiotherapy treatment programmes and group exercise/education programmes using clinical assessment and reasoning skills and evidence based information and protocols.
  • To formulate progress plans with patients enabling them to achieve treatment goals and targets.
  • To take delegated responsibility from senior specialist clinicians for managing particular patients within each rotation.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Need to communicate highly sensitive, complex information.
  • Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication methods to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes.  This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.  For example, patients may be dysphasic, deaf, blind, have language barriers or be unable to accept a diagnosis, and/or English is not their first language.
  • To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload.
  • Work within local and national guidelines and protocols where available and appropriate.
  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate, comprehensive, contemporaneous patient records in line with CSP standards of practice and local policy.
  • To be responsible for the safe and competent use of physiotherapy equipment and patient appliances and aids by patients, in compliance with Medical Devices Standards.
  • To ensure the efficient running of the business, some weekend and evening duty on a rota basis may be required.
  • Must demonstrate effective and appropriate skills in communicating information, advice, instruction and professional opinion to colleagues, patients, clients, and service users.
  • To liaise with other healthcare personnel to supply and receive relevant information about the background and progress of patients, as well as referring patients who require other specific medical attention.
  • To liaise with outside agencies where necessary to communication patient needs.
  • To be able to exercise a professional duty of care in a safe environment.
  • To know the professional and personal scope of practice and be able to make appropriate referrals.

Leadership/Management
  • Participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development programme to meet set knowledge and competencies.
  • To record and submit clinical and professional activity manually and electronically according to service standards and requirements.
  • Participate in and assist in any marketing and promotional work requested by the marketing department. This may involve promotional videos/blogs on social media, client testimonials and attending marketing events where required.

  • The jobholder must comply at all times comply with professional codes of practice, adhere to  Kingsbridge Healthcare Group and Queens Sport Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the company’s Risk Incident Reporting System.

  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree or equivalent
  • Registrant of the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Postgraduate qualification in manipulative physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, sports medicine or other relevant field.
Training
  • To undertake career-long, self-directed learning
  • Be open to continuing their education through industry workshops and seminars
  • The successful candidate’s continuous professional development portfolio must reflect a significant competency level in manual therapy, biomechanical assessment/rehabilitation and sports injury rehabilitation.
  • Evidence of an understanding of or training in the principles of strength and conditioning and their implementation in the injury rehabilitation process.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other disciplines with performance sport such as sports medicine practitioners, athletic performance coaches, sports science, nutritionists and sports psychologists.
  • Regarding working with Queen’s sports academy and elite athletes, experience is required in the effective communication with individual athlete management staff and national level medical and performance staff.
  • Pitch-side trauma management qualification or willingness to complete same.
  • Membership of professional networks such as ACPSEM, MACP, AACP.
Experience
 
 
  • A minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience working as a physiotherapist
  • A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience working within a musculoskeletal, private practice and/or sports physiotherapy/medicine environment.
  • Previous experience working with high performance elite athletes and semi/professional sports teams.
