Kingsbridge Healthcare Group are currently seeking to fill the role of a Physiotherapist within the Physiotherapy Department. The successful candidate will be based at Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West, Ballykelly but may be required to travel to other Company locations as and when required.

We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic physiotherapist with a can-do approach. The ideal candidate will have an interest in elective orthopaedics and the management of musculo-skeletal conditions.

Job Summary

To assist in the provision and organisation of a high standard physiotherapy service for patients on the Surgical Ward following orthopaedic/gynaecological/general surgical procedures.

This role may also extend to provision of physiotherapy for patients in the physiotherapy outpatient clinic.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

  1. To accept clinical responsibility for a caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  2. To work autonomously and demonstrate effective assessment skills, clinical reasoning, treatment selection and evaluation of treatments. Access to advice and support from a more experienced physiotherapist or the Lead Physiotherapist is available when required.  The postholder is expected to seek advice from them when clinical, professional and organisational concerns arise.  Clinical work is not routinely evaluated.
  3. To use communication tools (verbal and non-verbal) to gain informed consent from patients and to communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure their understanding of their condition.
  4. To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care, ensuring a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management.
  5. To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical information and to co-ordinate with the multi-disciplinary team in the care of patients requiring physiotherapy.
  6. To communicate patients’ progress and ongoing physiotherapy needs to appropriate Community and Social Care teams, Hospital based Physiotherapists, private physiotherapists and Occupational Health Teams when required.
  7. To communicate with visiting Consultants and implement post-operative treatment protocols.
  8. To maintain a daily record of treatment times spent with patients on the Surgical Ward.
  9. To respond appropriately and in a timely fashion to phone calls and enquiries from both inside and outside the Hospital.
  10. To respond to queries from patients and other health professionals relating to post-operative care and treatment protocols.
  11. To demonstrate a range of manual and therapeutic treatment skills in the management of patients with musculo-skeletal conditions.
  12. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements and to communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate health professionals in the form of reports and letters.
  13. To provide a caring service, ensuring patient safety and to treat those with whom you come into contact in a courteous and respectful manner.
  14. To work alone on the Ward when the Lead Physiotherapist may be off site and when covering weekend duties.
  15. To participate in the provision of a physiotherapy service during the weekends and public holidays.
  16. To monitor the safety of the equipment used in Physiotherapy treatments, including the prompt recording and reporting of faulty equipment to the Lead Physiotherapist.
  17. To ensure the safe issuing of equipment and to provide appropriate and clear instruction in the use of equipment provided as part of rehabilitation.
  18. To monitor and maintain supplies of Physiotherapy equipment used on the Ward for patient rehabilitation.

Professional

  1. To maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate them as necessary into your work.
  2. To be an active participant by attendance at and participation in in-service training programmes, tutorials, individual training sessions and by attending external courses and practising reflective practice.
  3. To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and community Physiotherapists to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multi- disciplinary service.
  4. To undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of evidence based practice projects, audit and outcome measures and to make recommendations to the Lead Physiotherapist for changes to practice which you feel would benefit the delivery of Physiotherapy.
  5. To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management, the principles of which are applied to the work situation.

Organisational

  1. To be involved in the provision of specialist advice/teaching to other members of the team, e.g. nursing staff and nursing auxiliaries, regarding the physiotherapy management of patients following surgery.
  2. To plan and organise your day efficiently and effectively with regard to patient management and use of time, readjusting plans as situations change/arise.
  3. To demonstrate commitment to the provision of the Physiotherapy service by regular attendance, the efficient completion of tasks allocated and by showing flexibility in ensuring service provision is consistent and meets the needs of patients, the Physiotherapy department and the Hospital.
  4. To comply with the organisational and departmental policies and procedures.
  5. To undertake any other duties which might be considered appropriate by the Lead Physiotherapist. This may include contributing to the provision of Physiotherapy in the Physiotherapy Outpatient Clinic.
  6. To abide by Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West Health and Safety policy.
  7. To comply with Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West Manual Handling policy.
  8. To participate in mandatory training as required.
  9. To participate in annual performance reviews and development planning.
