An opportunity has arisen within Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West for a dynamic and motivated Hospital Pharmacist.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake duties at the North West Hospital site and occasionally at other healthcare facilities within the Group.  The nature of the job may require an element of travel and therefore applicants must have access to a car and have a full, clean driver’s licence.

Job Summary

You will take responsibility for the day to day management of the pharmacy services, providing effective leadership and clinical pharmacy expertise to the wider clinical team.  You will coordinate pharmacy services within the hospital ensuring regulatory compliance, adherence to best practice frameworks and will take responsibility for clinical governance relating to medicine management.

  • To provide pharmaceutical expertise and input to the care of the patients within Kingsbridge Private Hospital. Leading the pharmacy department to deliver an excellent medicine management service to all customers, supervising the procurement, preparation, dispensing and distribution of medicines for inpatients and outpatients. To supervise junior staff members in the delivery of the medicine management service, and where necessary to assume responsibility for specialist clinical service.
  • Support the team to deliver care that helps improve the health of the individual and wider community.
  • Support the team in demonstrating compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.
  • Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical/technical knowledge / skill, and expertise.
  • Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient.
  • Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients, demonstrate courage to speak up when there are concerns about care.
  • Demonstrate commitment to improving care and the patient experience.
  • To facilitate the daily running of the pharmacy department, providing a safe and effective medicines management service to all Patients, Staff, Consultants and Customers.
  • Provide clinical input with respect to medicines management for all patients.
  • Ensure accurate and timely charging of medicines.
  • Ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory, professional and best practice frameworks.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Pharmacy MPharm, BSc or BPharm.
  • Registered with PSNI, Pharmaceutical Society of NI
  • One year post qualification
  • Knowledge of key legislation such as Quality Assurance tools, the Care Standards Act and RQIA requirements
  • Effective clinical decision-making
  • Reflective safe practice
  • Ethical use of information
  • Laws relating to Pharmacy Practice
  • Specialist knowledge gained through experience
  • Proficient in the use of information technology, including the use of hardware, software and systems
  • Enthusiastic and willingness to learn new roles and take on responsibility as the role develops
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, with a positive, proactive approach to leadership
  • Willingness to develop within the role and provide support for new and innovative thinking in healthcare
  • Have an accurate, methodical and careful approach to medicines management
  • Confidence in autonomous practice (where appropriate)

Desirable Criteria

  • Post-graduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Experience in delivering Training.
  • Previous Experience of providing support to management.
  • 2 years Managerial experience
  • IT and Telephone interaction skills
  • Policy and procedure development experience
