Job Summary

The post-holder will be required to assist in the delivery of the Physiotherapy Service at Kingsbridge Private Hospital by taking personal responsibility for planning and prioritising own patient workload.  The post requires the individual to work as part of a team.  Workloads may be variable due to the nature of the service provision. There may be opportunities to extend this role to provision of physiotherapy for patients in the physiotherapy outpatient clinic. There are no direct budgetary or staff management responsibilities associated with the post.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake and record a thorough, sensitive and detailed assessment of a patient, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care.
  • To provide appropriate advice based on the patient’s medical, social and cultural circumstances.
  • To formulate and deliver individual physiotherapy treatment programmes, and group exercise/education programmes using clinical assessment and reasoning skills and evidence based information and protocols.
  • To formulate progress plans with patients enabling them to achieve treatment goals and targets.
  • To take delegated responsibility from senior specialist clinicians for managing particular patients.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Need to communicate highly sensitive, complex information.
  • Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication methods to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes.  This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.  For example, patients may be dysphasic, deaf, blind, have language barriers or be unable to accept a diagnosis, and/or English is not their first language.
  • To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload.
  • Work within local and national guidelines and protocols where available and appropriate.
  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate, comprehensive, contemporaneous patient records in line with CSP standards of practice and local policy.
  • To be responsible for the safe and competent use of physiotherapy equipment and patient appliances and aids by patients, in compliance with Medical Devices Standards, including prompt reporting of faulty equipment.
  • To ensure the efficient running of the business by participating in the rota for the provision of physiotherapy services during the weekends, public holidays and in the evenings .
  • When working on the on call rota, undertake the assessment and treatment of acutely ill patients with respiratory problems, and maintain associated records.  Support from specialist clinicians to be available (e.g. telephone support).
  • Must demonstrate effective and appropriate skills in communicating information, advice, instruction and professional opinion to colleagues, patients, clients, users, their relatives and carers.
  • To treat every patient as an individual, with courteousy, kindness, respect and efficiency.
  • To liaise with other healthcare personnel to supply and receive relevant information about the background and progress of patients, as well as referring patients who require other specific medical attention.
  • To liaise with outside agencies where necessary to communication patient needs.
  • To respond in a timely manner to queries from patients and other health professionals relating to post-operative care and treatment protocols.
  • To be able to exercise a professional duty of care in a safe environment.
  • To know the professional and personal scope of practice and be able to make appropriate referrals.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of Clinical Governance and how it relates to the overall goals of the organisation and your own practice. To participate in audit and projects which will benefit the overall service and delivery of physiotherapy.
  • To plan and organise your day efficiently and effectively with regard to patient management and use of time, readjusting plans as situations change / arise.
  • To participate in the provision of specialist advice / teaching for other members of the multidisciplinary team regarding the management of patients following surgery.

  • Participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development programme to meet set knowledge and competencies.
  • To record and submit clinical and professional activity manually and electronically according to service standards and requirements.

  • The jobholder must comply at all times with professional codes of practice, adhere to  Kingsbridge Private Hospital and 3fivetwo Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the company’s Risk Incident Reporting System.

Experience

 

 

Knowledge of the job role

Previous experience of interacting with the general public in a healthcare setting both face to face, email and by telephone.

Previous experience in private healthcare with a strong commercial focus.

A minimum of 2 years hospital experience.

Experience in elective orthopaedics
