If you are a smoker, you should try to give up or cut down as much as possible, particularly if you will be having a general anaesthetic.

To help our team provide the best possible care, it’s important that we know about all medications you’re currently taking, including prescribed medicines, over-the-counter remedies, vitamins, or herbal supplements.

• Bring a full list or the original packaging of your medications to your consultation. This helps your consultant review your treatment safely and accurately.

• If you take blood-thinning medication (such as Warfarin), let your consultant know during your appointment. They will advise you if any changes are needed before a future procedure or test.

• Your referral letter (if required)
  If your GP or another healthcare provider has referred you, please bring your referral letter or any related correspondence.
  
• Any relevant medical records or scans
  This could include x-rays, MRIs, CT scans or other test results, either printed copies or digital images.
  
• A list of your current medications
  You can use our Medications Checklist, or take clear photos of your medicines and their labels on your phone. This helps your consultant review your treatment safely and accurately.

After your appointment, take a few moments to review what your consultant explained.

Make sure you understand your diagnosis and any recommended treatments, tests, or procedures.

If your consultant recommends further investigations such as an MRI, CT scan, X-ray, or blood tests, these can be arranged directly through Kingsbridge.

If your consultant advises surgery or a procedure:

• Our surgical booking team will receive your details and contact you to confirm the next available date.
  
• They will guide you through each step, from pre-assessment to admission, ensuring you have all the information you need.
  
• You’ll also receive a written confirmation with details of your procedure, fasting or preparation instructions, and who to contact with questions.
