At Kingsbridge Private Hospital our Consultants have a wide range of knowledge and expertise and are committed to provide effective assessment, treatment and support, for both you and your child.

At Kingsbridge Private Hospital we can provide a helping hand to parents and carers of children with special needs with our Private Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Services.

The mental and emotional health of children and young people can affect their later life. Good mental health is characterised by a person’s ability to fulfill a number of key functions and activities including the ability to:

  • Learn
  • Feel, express and mange a range of emotions
  • Form and maintain good relationships with others
  • Cope and manage change and uncertainty

Child and adolescent psychiatry clinics at Kingsbridge Private Hospital are focused to help you and your child deal with common and severe disorders including:

  • Low mood and depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • panic
  • trauma
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Alcohol and drug problems
  • Obsessive behaviours
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia and other psychosis

A GP referral is required when booking an appointment through our Psychiatry services. A private psychiatry consultation at Kingsbridge Private Hospital will last around 45 minutes. During this assessment the Consultant will take a full history asking about symptoms, current circumstances, family background and physical health.

At the consultation you will be advised whether any investigations are appropriate e.g. blood tests or scans as some psychiatric conditions can be caused by physical illness. The consultant will discuss in detail the treatments that may be beneficial. These may include therapeutic interventions or counselling through Kingsbridge Private Hospital Consultant Psychologists and/or medication.

They will offer a private psychiatry follow-up appointment if required. All questions regarding treatment options will be discussed before agreeing a management plan and way forward.

Our Child Psychiatry Assessment Clinics take place at our consulting rooms in Belfast. Prior to attending the consultation you will receive pre-assessment questionnaires to fill out.
