Knowing what happens at each stage of laser eye surgery can help you feel prepared and more at ease. Here’s what you can expect:
Before Surgery
You will attend a consultation to confirm your suitability for PRK laser eye surgery. Your eyes will be carefully examined, and detailed measurements will be taken to plan your treatment. You may need to stop wearing contact lenses for several days before surgery. Full preparation instructions will be provided by your care team.
During Surgery
PRK is performed under local anaesthetic eye drops. The surface layer of the cornea (the epithelium) is gently removed before a laser reshapes the underlying tissue to correct your vision. The procedure is quick and does not require the creation of a corneal flap. A protective contact lens is placed on the eye to support healing.
After Surgery
Your eyes may feel sore or watery for a few days as the surface layer heals. Vision will gradually improve over one to two weeks. You will be given medicated eye drops and clear aftercare instructions to aid recovery. Follow-up appointments will ensure your eyes are healing as expected and your vision continues to improve.
Millions of eyes have been successfully treated with Laser Eye Surgery around the world.
We can help you have the next set of eyes that no longer need glasses.
