Watch how the eXroid procedure shrinks haemorrhoids with this fast, effective and safe treatment for internal piles.
eXroid Electrotherapy is a largely painless procedure with patients experiencing only mild discomfort, usually associated with having a proctoscope (a narrow plastic tube) inserted into the anal canal to allow the doctor to see the piles.
When the current itself is activated and slowly increased, various symptoms have been described such as a low abdominal ache, a desire to pass water (patients are advised to use the bathroom before treatment for this reason) and other peculiar sensations, but usually no significant symptoms.

Low risk and effective
Patients are free to go back to work/normal activities immediately after treatment. We recommend a short rest from strenuous activities that may interrupt the recovery period.
Following treatment, there may be bleeding from the bottom, which is more likely if there has been recent bleeding from the piles. Some patients will experience sensitivity of the skin on their left hip for up to 48 hours following treatment, where the saline soaked sponge pad rests during the eXroid treatment.
Other side effects and complications are very rare or have not been reported, but could include more prolonged discomfort or pain, an external thrombosed pile, infections, scarring, strictures or perforation of the bowel.
Is it possible I may need more than one treatment?
Yes, it is possible that you will need more than one treatment. From the data we have received from our patients who have previously had eXroid treatment, about half require one treatment to get symptomatic relief and the other half will need further treatment(s). There is a tendency for those with higher grade haemorrhoids and for those having had them for a longer duration, to need more treatment sessions to achieve symptomatic relief.
Will the doctor be able to tell me how many treatments I’ll need?
No, it is not possible to predict with any certainty that you will need one or more treatments following an initial examination. There is a tendency for those with narrow-based haemorrhoids (irrespective of grade) to need fewer treatments and for those with broader-based haemorrhoids to need multiple. However, the number of treatments cannot be guaranteed or predicted, as we cannot predict how a patient will heal, nor what factors might affect if haemorrhoids might increase in size again or for new ones to appear elsewhere following a treatment and what timeframe over which this might occur. It is important that any factors that might be contributing to having haemorrhoids are addressed, such as prolonged sitting, constipation, heavy lifting etc. If these factors are not addressed, there is an increased risk of additional treatments being needed and of new haemorrhoids developing. This is true with all treatments used for haemorrhoids, including banding, radiofrequency, THD, stapling and haemorrhoidectomy etc.
How long does the treatment take?
It can take up to 10 minutes for each haemorrhoid, or up to 30 minutes for one session treating 3 piles. An initial consultation and treatment takes 45 – 60 minutes. Please be aware that the treatment can take up to half an hour with you lying on your side. If you have any back or hip issues we will aim to keep you as comfortable as possible during this time
Can I go back to everyday activities straight away?
This is usually possible for most. For some patients, a short recovery time may be required and, for a small percentage (actually 11%) one or more days is sometimes required.
