Bladder & Vulval Pain

Bladder and vulval pain can be distressing and affect daily life. At Kingsbridge, our specialists provide compassionate, confidential care to find the cause and help you feel comfortable again.

  • Do you experience pain, pressure or discomfort in your bladder?
  • Is this pain relieved passing urine?
  • Is the pain in your bladder worse with sex, eating spicy or acidic foods, drinking coffee?

If the answer is ‘yes’, you may be suffering from Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS)

This condition is often associated with reduced quality of life, low self-esteem and can cause problems with your sex life. It affects around 5% of the population and is 5 times more common in women than men.

Costs

Costs vary depending on the procedure and your personal treatment plan. We’ll give you a clear price guide upfront and explain what’s included.

Flexible payment options are available to help spread the cost. Our team is here to answer questions and help you choose the best way to pay.

Steps to get started

If you have ongoing bladder and vulval pain, your GP will assess you and, if they think specialist care is appropriate, give you a referral letter to see a specialist.

If you’re using health insurance

Check with your provider to see what’s covered. We’re happy to help with any paperwork and can work directly with many insurance companies to make the process smoother for you.

If you’re paying for treatment yourself or using a payment plan

What treatments are available?

BPS can often go undiagnosed for many years. The first step is to rule out other causes of pain such as urinary tract infection, bladder stones, endometriosis or bowel problems. Sometimes investigations are needed such as urodynamics or a camera test of your bladder (cystoscopy).

The following treatments are available for bladder pain:

Botulinum toxin bladder injections

Medication (cimetidine, amitriptyline)

Bladder instillation therapy
