NEWS : Kingsbridge Healthcare Group Invests £1.5 Million In Game-Changing Eye Laser Technology
18th, Nov 2024
Leading local healthcare provider, Kingsbridge Hospital Group is putting the aging population firmly in focus with the announcement of a £1.5 million investment in a world class laser eye treatment technology previously unavailable in Ireland.
The pioneering procedure known as PRESBYOND by Zeiss Laser Technology is specifically designed for those between the ages of 40 to 60 experiencing presbyopia (age-related far-sightedness), a common condition that results in difficulty seeing objects up close and is effective for treating many presbyopia-related forms of impairment and with a high satisfaction rate.
Andrew Spence, Specialist Refractive Optometrist explains the impact this new service will have on patients saying, "PRESBYOND allows our team of expert ophthalmic surgeons to offer patients a sophisticated and less invasive solution for ageing eyes. Without getting too technical, this next generation procedure results in focused vision from far to near and in between.
"Each procedure is completely customised for the individual bringing additional laser eye surgery techniques to enhance deep focus and improve near vision while maintaining good distance vision, an ideal solution especially for those who enjoy activities without glasses.
“Coupled with the fact that this option is suitable for most older people with presbyopia, we are looking forward to helping many over 40s who no longer want to struggle with their sight or simply want to be free from wearing glasses."
This latest addition comes alongside other developments for older patients at the Kingsbridge Eye clinic which is now also offering advanced lenses that allow focused vision from far to near as well as for the treatment of Cataracts.
Richard Sweeney, Head of Service & Product Development adds, "With recent figures showing around 1.5 million of the population of Ireland in this age category, it's important that those who want access to the most advanced procedures should be given that option.
"Technology is progressing universally at a rapid pace and the healthcare sector is an area benefiting greatly from this. As a premier provider in this field, we want to enable all our patients to take advantage of the latest innovations. That is why we are the first eye care specialists in Ireland to offer PRESBYOND, a unique and revolutionary laser treatment to correct the need for reading glasses, in our drive to firmly establish our Eye Clinic based at our Diagnostic and Treatment Centre as a one stop shop in excellence for all vision requirements."
Ashling Green, General Manager at KDTC is delighted with this latest addition to the range of services offered at the facility at the Kings Hall Complex.
“The plan for our Diagnostic and Treatment Centre was that it would be a state-of-the -art one stop centre of excellence for a range of services. The availability of this groundbreaking laser eye treatment is a demonstration that we have achieved this. Patients can be assured that they are receiving the best care for their eyesight and overall health with the availability of a dedicated 7-day red flag pathway for diagnostic scopes, CT scanning, GP, Dermatology and Cardiology services at KDTC."
