Mr Michael McBride
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce visible signs of ageing in the face and neck. It works by lifting and tightening underlying facial tissues, removing excess skin, and redefining facial contours to create a smoother, firmer and more youthful appearance.
A neck lift is a surgical procedure designed to improve visible signs of ageing in the neck and beneath the chin. It focuses on tightening loose skin, removing excess fat and refining the contours of the neck and jawline.
Both procedures can be performed alone or combined with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, brow lift or fat transfer for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Combining procedures can create a more balanced and harmonious result between the neck and face

Top plastic surgeon, Mr. Michael McBride explains what you can expect with both facelift and neck lift surgery.
Knowing what happens at each stage of surgery can help you feel prepared and more at ease. Here’s what you can expect:
Before Surgery
You will have a consultation to discuss your goals, medical history, and the most suitable surgical approach. Pre‑operative assessments may include blood tests and imaging. You may be advised to stop smoking and certain medications before surgery.
During Surgery
Surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic. The surgeon will make carefully placed incisions to lift and tighten skin and muscles. Once the desired contour is achieved, the incisions are closed, often with fine sutures, and dressings are applied.
After Surgery
You may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort for several days. Pain can be managed with prescribed medication. Most patients can return to normal activities within two to three weeks, while full recovery and final results can take several months. Follow‑up appointments ensure proper healing and address any concerns.
