Endoscopy

Endoscopy

Do you have symptoms such as stomach pain, difficulty swallowing, heartburn, or unexplained changes in your bowel habits?

These issues can make eating uncomfortable and may leave you feeling unsure about your health. If symptoms continue or worsen, it can affect your routine, sleep, and overall wellbeing.

Getting clear answers is often the first step towards feeling better.

What is an Endoscopy?

An endoscopy is a procedure used to look inside your body using a thin, flexible tube with a small camera. It allows a consultant to examine areas such as your digestive tract in detail.

During the procedure, the camera is gently passed through your mouth or another entry point, depending on the area being examined. This helps identify causes of symptoms such as inflammation, ulcers, or other conditions. In some cases, small samples of tissue may be taken for testing, or treatment can be carried out during the same procedure.

You may be advised to have an endoscopy if you have symptoms such as ongoing abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, persistent heartburn, unexplained weight loss, or changes in your bowel habits. It can also be used to investigate bleeding in the digestive tract or to monitor conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease.

Endoscopy is not only used for diagnosis. It can also be used to treat certain conditions, such as stopping internal bleeding or removing polyps, which may help prevent more serious illness.

Your care is led by an experienced consultant who will assess your symptoms and decide if this test is suitable for you.
