Mr Scott Matthews’ Profile
Mr Scott Matthews is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Craigavon Area Hospital. His specialist interests include primary hip and knee arthroplasty, as well as soft tissue knee surgery.
He graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 2012 and completed his Trauma and Orthopaedic Registrar training in the Severn/Northern Ireland Deanery. In 2022, he successfully completed the FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) Fellowship Exam.
Following completion of his higher surgical training in Northern Ireland, Mr Matthews spent a year in North Bristol, completing the first of two fellowships. While in Bristol, he focused on primary and revision knee arthroplasty, including partial knee replacements, as well as soft tissue and patellofemoral knee surgery – encompassing meniscal surgery, ACL reconstructions, and patellar instability surgery.
He then moved to Dublin to complete a second fellowship at Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital, where his focus was on primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty.
Mr Matthews is passionate about teaching alongside his clinical practice. During his first fellowship, he completed a postgraduate certificate in medical education. He currently serves on the Northern Ireland faculty for the Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) course.
Throughout his career, he has presented both nationally and internationally and is the Principal Investigator for national collaborative studies at Craigavon Area Hospital.
