Mr Sam McMahon’s Profile

Mr Sam McMahon is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast. He specialises in hip and knee arthroplasty (joint replacement) and the treatment of sarcoma (bone and soft tissue cancer).

He completed his medical degree at the University of Manchester and after two years working at Frere Medical Centre, East London, South Africa, he commenced his specialty training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Northern Ireland. During this time he demonstrated a keen interest in research, achieving 19 peer reviewed publications.

Following completion of training he undertook a fellowship in sarcoma surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, London. This was followed by a fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty and sarcoma surgery at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, South Australia.

Mr McMahon keeps up to date by being an active member of the British Hip Society (BHS) and the British Orthopaedic Oncology Society (BOOS).
