Colin Mulholland’s Profile

Mr Colin Mulholland has been a consultant urologist, based at Altnagelvin hospital, for 28 years.

He has extensive experience in the investigation and surgical management of the full range of urological conditions.

Mr. Mullholland has lead the development of urology nurse specialists in the Western trust.

Whilst experienced in all aspects of urological surgery, his main expertise has been kidney surgery. In recent years he has helped with the establishment of the Northern Ireland regional penile cancer centre based at Altnagelvin.

With improved MRI based prostate imaging he has been at the forefront of improving the diagnostic process for prostate cancer. He is experienced  in counselling men regarding prostate cancer risk and  has expertise in accurate MRI directed prostate biopsy techniques. The Altnagelvin experience in this area has been presented nationally and internationally and results compare favourably with the best in UK and Europe.

Treatments and Areas
of Interest

  • Abnormalities of the penis and scrotum. (Patients 13 years and over)
  • Urinary symptoms including haematuria
    (blood in urine)
  • Conditions of the kidneys, prostate and bladder.
  • Prostate cancer risk assessment including biopsy.
  • Assessment for urinary stones. (Surgery for kidney and ureteric stones is not currently available at Kingsbridge Northwest).
