Brendan Skelly’s Profile

Mr Skelly was appointed as Consultant General and Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at the Western Trust in 2019.  He is based at Altnagelvin Area Hospital. 

He specialises in the treatment of breast cancer surgery, benign breast problems and hernia surgery.

He has a special interest in oncoplastic breast surgery for cancer patients.  He also has a keen interest in the assessment of hernias with comprehensive experience of hernia repair surgery. 

Mr Skelly gained subspecialty fellowship training in Dublin focusing on breast cancer management and combined oncoplastic breast surgery procedures, including breast implant, pedicled flap reconstruction and revisional breast surgery for breast cancer and benign breast disease. 

Mr Skelly has a broad range of experience from general surgery and breast surgery having worked in multiple tertiary referral units in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Republic of Ireland.

He currently is a Recognised Postgraduate Surgical Trainer (Western HSCT) and Undergraduate Medical School Tutor (QUB & Ulster University).
