Professor Lana Dixon’s Profile

Professor Dixon received her medical degree with first class honours from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1997. She was also awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Queens University in 2003. She completed specialist cardiology training in Northern Ireland and a fellowship in the Royal Brompton Hospital London 2007.

She was appointed Consultant Cardiologist in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast in 2008 and is also an Honorary Professor in Queens University Belfast.

Professor Dixon offers assessment and management of all common cardiac conditions such as chest pain (angina/coronary disease), shortness of breath, palpitations (heart rhythm disorders), presyncope and syncope (dizziness and black-outs).

Her specialist interests include the diagnosis of and management of heart failure, cardiomyopathies and valvular heart disease in addition to cardiac imaging that includes trans-oesophageal echocardiography, and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Professor Dixon has an active role in cardiovascular research, publishing research in peer reviewed medical journals and presenting findings at international cardiology conferences, with an overall goal to improve outcomes and quality of care for patients with cardiovascular disease.
