Lana Dixon’s Profile

Professor Dixon received her medical degree with honours, from Queens University in 1997 and completed specialist cardiology training in Northern Ireland before completing a fellowship the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. She became a Cardiology Consultant in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast in 2008, and is also an Honory Professor in Queens University Belfast.


Professor Dixon offers assessment of all common cardiac conditions such as chest pain (angina/coronary disease), shortness of breath, palpitations (heart rhythm disorders) and syncope (black-outs).

Her specialist interests include the diagnosis of and management of heart failure, cardiomyopathies and valvular heart disease in addition to cardiac imaging that includes trans-oesophageal echocardiography, and cardiac MRI.

Professor Dixon has an active role in cardiovascular research, publishing research in peer reviewed medical journals and presenting findings at leading international cardiology conferences, with an overall aim to improve outcomes and quality of care for patients with cardiovascular disease.

  • All common cardiac conditions such as chest pain/angina, palpitations/heart rhythm disorders, shortness of breath, heart failure, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies and cardiac causes of loss of consciousness.
  • Subspecialises in cardiac imaging including echocardiography, trans-oesophageal echocardiography

  • MB BCH BAO, with Honors,1997, Queens University Belfast.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians 2001 Edinburgh.
  • MD, 2003 Queens University Belfast.
