Joseph Kane’s Profile

Dr Kane is a consultant geriatric psychiatrist specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of dementia and cognitive impairment. Through his clinical work with Belfast Health & Social Care Trust he leads memory and psychiatry of old age clinics, as well as a specialist Lewy body dementia clinic.

Dr Kane combines his clinical work with award-winning dementia research at Queen’s University. He has published extensively on the subject of dementia and is Vice Chair for the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART) Lewy Body Dementias Professional Interest Area. He is a secretary and founding member of Lewy Body Ireland and sits on the faculty of the Lewy Body Academy. Through his academic work Dr Kane can stay informed on the latest research in dementia diagnosis and treatment.
