Helen Toal’s Profile

Dr Toal is a full time Consultant Psychiatrist with the NHS (Belfast Health and Social Care Trust), working the Belfast Community Addiction Service, the Belfast Opiate Substitution Team and in Malone Place Day Hospital.  She began her Consultant career in 2009 as an Addiction Psychiatrist in South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust and moved to her current post in 2012.

She has experience and expertise in assessment and treatment of patients with addiction to alcohol, opioids, sedative medications, stimulants and prescribed medication. She also assesses and treats the mental health needs of patients with substance use.

Dr Toal’s other roles include Clinical Director for Community and Partnerships (Mental Health) in Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and Health Examiner and Medical Supervisor for the General Medical Council.
