Senior Staff Nurse (Theatres)

Due to the recent continuous expansion, Kingsbridge Private Hospital are currently looking to fill the role of Senior Staff Nurse within the Theatre Department. The successful candidates will be based at our private hospital on the Lisburn Road.

Hours 37.5 per week, Monday – Sunday
Responsible to Theatre Manager (and Deputy Theatre Managers as delegated)
Accountable to Compliance and Clinical Services Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic registered practitioner with proven experience to support the Theatre Manager with the day-to-day running of the theatres.  As a senior nurse you will be required to take responsibility for a theatre and its environment to ensure safe, effective patient care is being delivered at all times.
 
Organisational Expectations:
The post holder will:

  1. Primarily be responsible for the theatre environment, equipment, and infrastructure as well as the audits pertaining to same.  Additionally, they will provide clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff ensuring effective running of the theatre during the working day and / or in the absence of a Deputy Theatre Managers.  
  2. Assist in the management of the theatres, developing and implementing operational policies and procedures to achieve service objectives, enabling the provision of the highest standards of care and services.
  3. Undertake key clinical responsibilities under the supervision of the Theatre Manager. These may include:  taking charge, audits, stock ordering, mentoring and other specific clinical developments on a project by project basis.
  4. Maintain an organisational culture that fosters collaborative working among all staff groups to ensure a focused commitment to delivering quality services and outcomes.
  5. Comply with Corporate Governance structure in keeping with the principles and standards set out by the hospital.
  6. Support the hospital’s culture of collaborative, flexible, cross-team working and commitment to delivering quality services and outcomes.
  7. Adhere to Infection Control policies assuring compliance with all defined Infection Control standards at all times and challenge poor practice that could lead to the transmission of infection.
  8. Collaborate closely with a team of Consultants and other disciplines to promote a multi-disciplinary approach to care.
 
Clinical Responsibilities:
  1. Provide support to the Deputies and Theatre Manager in the mentoring and support of the nursing team.
  2. Demonstrate clinical expertise and leadership.
  3. Develop own skills through CPD and management training.
  4. Ensure adherence to the DHSS and NMC guidelines for the safe handling, administration, storage and custody of medical products.
  5. Maintain own personal and professional development in accordance with NMC code of professional conduct and within the scope of professional practice.
  6. Participate effectively as part of the multi-professional team providing expert nursing in relation to patient management.
  7. Communicate effectively with all members of multi-professional team to ensure that all patients’ needs are met.
 
Management Responsibilities:
  1. Take charge of a theatre in the absence of a Deputy in the Theatre.
  2. Prepare and take part in the daily briefing for Theatres
  3. Ensure the audit schedule for Theatres is compliant and develop changes/training where gaps are identified.
  4. Participate in the recruitment and selection of Theatre staff.
  5. Effectively manage the allocated Theatre environment and equipment in terms of IPC, management of repairs etc through Medical Audits and Happy Fox.
  6. Ensure effective and efficient use of resources and cost control within the department.
  7. Conduct junior staff appraisals annually for the Theatre employees.
  8. Identify the learning needs of the team along with the Deputies, Theatre Manager and Clinical Nurse Lead, and in collaboration with the CCSM, ensure programmes are in place to meet these needs.
  9. Responsible for maintaining own continuing professional development.
 
Policy / Service Development:
  1. Contribute to the ongoing development of policy and practice arising from audits or complaints.
  2. Maintain theatre records and deal with event reporting as it arises.
