World Cancer Awareness Day

2nd, February 2021

Cancer is a global challenge and World Cancer Day is one singular initiative under which the entire world can unite together in the fights against the cancer epidemic.

In line with World Cancer Awareness Day, we want to help raise awareness around Prostate Cancer, an illness that affects 1,100 men in Northern Ireland every year.

Due to the sensitive nature of the area in which it develops, men are often nervous to talk about issues they have which may be symptoms of prostate cancer or get a checkup.

But establishing an openness to talking about these issues is the first step to saving the lives of men all over the country. Symptoms of prostate cancer are actually extremely common issues that many men suffer from.

The five warning signs include:

  • A painful or burning sensation during urination or ejaculation
  • Frequent urination, particularly at night
  • Difficulty stopping or starting urination
  • Sudden erectile dysfunction
  • Blood in urine or semen

The risk of developing prostate cancer in younger men is less common and it mainly affects those over 50; however, for men of all ages, taking the initial step of making yourself and others around you aware of the signs is incredibly important in the fight against it.

This will help make sure you and your loved ones are prepared when it’s vital to get a screening and stay ahead of any issues that may arise in the future.

A Prostate Screening Test is recommended if you have any symptoms and most enlargements of the prostate are benign, meaning they are not cancer and can be easily treated. A simple check with a member of our team is often all that is needed to help diagnose any problems.

At Kingsbridge Private Hospital we have a dedicated Prostate Screening Clinic for men who are worried about prostate disease. The Kingsbridge Prostate Clinic offers fast access to diagnostics tests with results within 48 hours and an appointment with a specialist consultant.

Help look out for generations of men before and after yourself and make yourself aware of prostate cancer symptoms today and tomorrow.
