Made in Chelsea star and TV personality, Ollie Locke, visited Chelsea Private Clinic, part of the 3fivetwo Group, earlier this month to have the SpermComet test, an extended semen analysis test used to identify sperm DNA damage.

As fans of the reality show will know, 28 year old Ollie has lived the party lifestyle for over a decade and now approaching his 30’s, he is looking to the future and keen to understand if his party lifestyle of smoking and drinking has affected his sperm DNA quality and ultimately his chances of being able to procreate in the future.

When it comes to sperm quality, conventional semen analysis tells us little. The SpermComet is a much more sensitive male fertility test that can measure DNA damage in individual sperm.

What many young men like Ollie don’t know, is that sperm quality can be seriously affected by things like stress, smoking, alcohol, recreational drugs, obesity and other avoidable lifestyle factors and this is turn can lead to fertility issues.

While having a family may not be at the forefront of the mind of a male in his 20’s, when it comes to settling down and starting a family, their lifestyle choices could affect their chances of having a baby.

Ollie Locke had a consultation with SpermComet Director, Professor Sheena Lewis at the Chelsea Private Clinic. You can hear what both Professor Lewis and Ollie had to say during the consultation by clicking here. This footage hopefully gives men an insight into what the SpermComet test entails and what you can expect from your appointment.

As Professor Lewis explains in the footage, fortunately for men, the male body produces new sperm every 3 months, which means, if the SpermComet test detects damage in your sperm DNA, you can rectify this by making adjustments to your lifestyle and therefore reducing the damage to your sperm DNA.

The SpermComet test is not only used for testing within fertility, but it can also be used to test overall male wellbeing and give you an in-depth look at your overall health with the opportunity to improve your sperm DNA damage, should you have any, with simple lifestyle changes. To this end, 3fivetwo Healthcare offer patients the option to book a SpermComet test along with their comprehensive health screening packages to help give patients a complete overview of their current health and wellbeing.

The SpermComet test is available at a number of clinics in the UK, including Chelsea Private Clinic, but their base is located right here in Northern Ireland making it even easier for local patients to access this innovative new test used for both fertility testing and health screening.

Origin Fertility Care and 3fivetwo Healthcare, both part of the 3fivetwo Group, are delighted to be able to offer patients access to the SpermComet test at their Belfast clinics for those patients wanting to avail of the innovative test.
